In Kiloude City, often overlooked by locals and visiting trainers alike, there was a quiet little path. The path followed the river past the multitude of palms and grasses in the tropical paradise, the mountains constantly looming overhead like monarchs over their subjects. Partially overgrown, many would miss it, but the more adventurous or keen-eyed trainers would notice, often taking the paths themselves to see where it led.
The quiet little path lead to a quiet little town called Métimour Village, a pleasant, tropical town much like Kiloude. The buildings were low and close together, the tallest being two stories, with one main street leading to a large, circular plaza and a few small side-streets. Flowers and palms bloomed in the town, matching well with the wood-and-stone buildings and adding quite a bit of color. The streets were paved, but in need of repair, making walking or riding a far more popular choice than driving. Most stores were small mom-and-pop establishments; an apothecary selling herbs, a family-run general store, a café with a lovely garden and outdoor seating, a quaint hotel converted from an old manor.
A town hall with a domed roof was the pride of Métimour Plaza, with a lovely garden and lawn out front and well-cleaned sides. A post office on one side and modest courthouse on the other framed the town hall, making a 'convenient' one-stop-shop for all one's governmental needs. There was even a fountain in the center of the plaza, simple but pleasant. The plaza also held the modest Pokemon Center and police station, and several streets leading to residential areas and one to the cemetery, which remained with the funeral home just outside of town. Everything a little town needed, everything it wanted.
...And some things it didn't.
Rumors had started surrounding the town a few weeks ago. Mysterious sounds, people disappearing, pokemon misbehaving...Not to mention the normal secrets and lies hidden underneath the thin veneer of the 'perfect' tropical town. A few people in Kiloude knew of the whispers of Métimour Village, but none thought about it as more than an urban legend or amusing anecdote.

Gwyn always believed that every mystery deserves to be revealed, that every secret should be known. If there is something that is left unknown he wants it uncovered, no matter what must be done. So when he heard of the rumors surrounding a small, out of the way town by Kiloude City, he knew he had to go. While most thought nothing more of it than simple rumors of a perfect town, Gwyn saw it as a challenge. The fact that no one seemed to really pay much attention to the mystery surrounding this quiet little town only intrigued him more.
As Gwyn walked down the overgrown path, the sun reflecting off his bald head, he started thinking. A small place like this was bound to have secrets, but where would he find the answers? Asking whoever was in charge of the place was probably a good way to get unwanted attention following him. The police station seemed like a logical first stop, as he could gather as much info they have gathered as he needed by flashing his badge, indicating he was a detective. After that he could simply ask the locals about what he needed. And if people were to...... go missing during his interrogations, he could just chalk it up to the mystery of the town. As Gwyn reached the end of the path, entering the small town of mystery, he smiled. "This is going to be fun." He said.

Her steps were slow and measured as she walked through her temporary vacation town. Métimour Village, the unknown village of Kalos, a star in the middle of nowhere. It was a beautiful city, but the air was heavy in mystery and a light aura of fear. Perfect for writing, and she planned to use the city in her next book. Razailia scanned the area, memorizing every building and brick as she walked. She wanted to know the city like the back of her hand when she was done. She wanted every little alleyway, every nook and cranny. It was all necessary for her book.
Razalia had come to the city when she heard the rumor floating on the wind. It intrigued her, and she came after talking with some people and gathering the information. She planned to learn the city, and try to at least see a person vanish- and try to solve who was causing them. She began to meet locals, and drink in coffee shops. She ate at restaurants, went to coffee shops- she had yet to hear of anyone disappearing, though. She wasn't disappointed, but her patience was beginning to wane, since she had been here two weeks now. Someone would vanish eventually, and once they did, she'd begin to hunt the trail of clues. Razailia silently got out a pokeball at let our her Phantump, Vincent. She just wanted the company, and the pokemon loved being around her. The two strolled along, just observing- and possibly hoping for something to happen.

The village was as bustling as a small town could be in the middle of the day; several people roamed the streets and plaza, others ran the businesses, a few stopped to chat with one another. It seemed quite normal...On the surface. As outsiders like Gwyn passed, the conversations would fall to whispers. A few 'friendly' smiles and nods appeared forced for the sake of politeness. The air itself felt heavy, the day humid and muggy in the tropical town. The only one who seemed completely at ease was another outsider; a lightly-tanned young woman, relaxing on the edge of the fountain with a Sligoo on the ground beside her. A light purple scrunchie held her long, wavy auburn hair into a low ponytail, and a combination of a wide-brimmed straw hat and sunglasses with dark purple lenses kept the sun out of her eyes. Her outfit was quite fashionable overall, and even coordinated with her gooey, cutesy pokemon. Her necklace didn't quite match - three flat, oval pearl sheets connected by a small onyx gem, hanging on a thin silver chain - but, regardless, it didn't take away much from the look, adding a bit of quirkiness. Her dark purple purse sat on one side of her, a Premier Ball on the other; presumably, her other pokeballs and items were in the purse, as that dress clearly didn't have any hidden pockets. A few other people roamed the plaza, likely locals judging by the darker tans and casual clothing. An older woman accompanied by an elderly man, a group of four young men, two gossiping teenage girls, a shady-looking teenage boy leaning against a palm tree. All going about their own days, whatever they may entail.

Gwyn observed the town as he walked down the streets. Things fell silent as he walked by, people putting up masks of deception. He felt there was definitely something off around here. It seemed mostly locals walked the streets, though he could see a few people that seemed to be from out of town. 'Maybe I should ask the outsiders why they are visiting, possibly get some new information and rumors.' Gwyn walked inside of the local police station, pulling out his detectives badge out his trench coat. "My name is Gwyn Ferris, I am a detective. If you wouldn't mind, I would like to speak to the chief of police about a few things." He had a stern look on his face. He didn't expect to get extremely clear answers, but he hoped that he could get enough if he seemed like he meant business.

Razailia entered the plaza from the small alleyway she was in earlier, and looked around the area. There were people here she had not observed before, and she pulled out a notepad, quickly writing notes about each of them. She paused at the woman at the fountain, looking her over. On her note sheet she wrote, 'outsider' and 'very odd.' The air around her set off alarm bells in Razailia's mind, and she blinked slowly. The girl seemed normal other then her clothes.
Razailia puts away her notepad, and continues on her walk. She goes up to the fountain, and takes a picture of it as a reference point- for her writings later, of course. She then, without a word, walks away with Vincent. It was time for a cup of tea.

The desk officer raised a brow as Gwyn came in, demanding answers and the like. "...Uh-huh. Let me see your badge, 'detective'." He said, holding out his hand. Assuming the badge was handed over, the officer would look it over for authenticity, nod, then hand it back. "The chief's a busy man; if you need anything, then ask me instead." It didn't seem like the man was lying, nor did he seem to want to back down. A battle of the stubborn men, a mental fight for the ages.
The fashionable young woman gave a small smile and nod to Razailia as she came over to take pictures, the Sligoo making cooing noises at the new face. The fountain itself was a simple, circular one, fairly deep with coins glistening on the bottom. Had this been a fantasy or mystery novel, it would've hidden a secret passageway or dark secret. But, no, it was just a fountain. The water was a bit cooler than one might expect, but then again cooling systems DID exist.

Gwyn frowned. The man didn't seem to be lying, but Gwyn still preferred to talk to the chief. He placed one hand on the desk and leaned on it. "Fine, if you can provide adequate assistance, then I will leave the chief to his work." He stood back up straight and adjusted his trench coat. "There have been murmurings about some strange happenings in this town, odd noises, people vanishing, things of the like. I'm sure the police around here have done some investigating into these rumors, so I would like you to provide me with some of the information you have gathered." Gwyn looked at the officer with a very serious face.

The desk officer sighed, lowering his voice. "Look, we're doing our best to handle it. We don't need help from Kiloude's force, or anywhere else." He certainly seemed to believe in the truth of his words. "Besides, I can't go around just telling everyone who asks everything about the case. You and I both know that's not how things work. I can tell you what we've told the media, but that's it." Again, he was speaking the truth.

Razailia and her phantump walk into a small coffee and tea place and walk up to the counter. She taps the desk bell when she sees no person is at the counter- probably in the bathroom. As she waits for the person to finish their business, she takes out her camera and takes pictures of the shop. It would be featured in her story- or, at least she plans it to be. Sometimes books don't always go the way you plan them to go. The coffee shop wasn't one of the ones she had been to before, but she had passed it on several occasions and decided she liked the place.

As Razailia was taking pictures, a middle-aged man came to the counter, giving her a friendly smile. "Ah, a customer! Welcome, welcome! How has your day been?" This was a typical thing in Kalos; a brief conversation before business began proper.

Razailia looked back at the man and gave a polite smile, "My day has been well. I've been exploring this lovely town, and enjoying the day. How has your day been so far?"

The man gave a short, hardy laugh. "Not too bad! Slow, but that's not unusual. So, where would you like to sit? Outside, at the counter, or at a table?" He asked, taking out a menu from under the counter. Another, slightly younger man waited tables nearby, taking orders and cleaning up dishes.

Gwyn let out a deep breath. "That should be fine. If you aren't authorized then I can't exactly expect you to tell me things you shouldn't."He leaned forward on the desk, loosening up a bit. "Okay, tell me what you can."

Razailia thought for a moment, "Outside. I just can't get enough of the fresh air around here." she nodded, as if to solidify her decision, "Plus I think some of my pokemon need the fresh air, as well."

The officer nodded, shuffling through his papers. "Let's see...Ah!" He seemed to have found what he was looking for. "There have been 5 disappearances over the course of three weeks. First one was old Susanne Carami; a 70-year-old local woman. Vanished while on her morning stroll. Next was Wilson Miller; 36-year-old local man, used to be the graveskeeper. Both he and his Furfrou went missing in the cemetery. Then there was Miles Vincennes; a 20-year-old Lumiose man. Seems he came to town two days before with two friends, they reported him missing after he didn't return from shopping. Later, another local woman went missing; 41-year-old Viola Milano, vanished during an evening walk. The latest was 16-year-old Jacques LeDour, went missing on his way home from soccer practice." All truthful, all straight from the document.

"Hmmmmmmm, interesting." Gwyn thought for a second. He didn't see any connection between victims, but he noticed that a few of them vanished in broad daylight. He stood straight up again. "That should be good enough for now. As you can probably guess, I'm going to do some investigating myself. I know you said you guys don't need any help, but I would like to be given freedom to do any investigations and searches that may be needed. If I find anything I deem of importance I'll bring it right here. THEN I expect to talk to the chief."

The officer sighed. "...Just don't get yourself into any trouble, and stay away from active scenes. If we hear of any funny business, then we'll be revoking any privileges." He warned; it was as close to an approval of investigation as he was going to get right now, without the chief's permission. Still, it was a lot better than nothing.
The man nods and shows her to an outside table, shaded by a wide umbrella. "Here we are! I'll give you a few minutes to decide what you want." He says, setting the menu down and leaving her be.

Gwyn nodded and walked out of the station. "That could have gone better." He was very limited by what he could do without talking to the chief. Still, he wasn't a detective for nothing. He had some new information to work on. 'Okay, I'll ask some questions before doing any searches regarding the missing people.' He scanned around, noticing an outsider sitting by the fountain. 'May as well talk to outsiders first, see if I can get any rumors I have missed.' He walked over to the woman with the sliggo and took a seat beside her. "Nice place, isn't it?" He said, trying to start up a conversation first. People tended to talk more if things were more casual.

Razailia nodded to the man as he left and let out Arta. The Ariados clicks its fangs together and shoots string at the awning, casually hanging itself off the fixture. Razailia decides on a nice cup of chmomile tea with honey and milk, and a scone. She sets down the menu and scratches Arta's chin, while reaching into her bag and pulling out her notes. She wrote down qualities of the people who run the restaurant that she observed, and left it out so she could write down information on passersby.

The woman looked up and blinked as the older man joined her on the fountain. She gave a 'friendly' smile; he'd be able to tell something was 'off' about her, but be unsure about what it was. "Ah, yes, it's quite a lovely town!" Her Sligoo slithered over and gave the man's leg a hug, covering it in goo.
The Ariados got several strange looks, and her waiter was hesitant to approach the table to take her order, but otherwise she wouldn't have much trouble. Soon after she places the order, she receives her food and tea, both piping hot and tasty.

Gwyn could sense something was off about this girl. 'That's odd,' he thought. 'I didn't expect anything from an outsider.' He shrugged it off, but kept it in the back of his mind. He looked down at his leg as the Sliggoo enveloped his pants with a slimy goo. He gently pushed it away with his foot. "Not very many people seem to visit this little town, which is a shame. I assume you are not from here?" He looked her over. She didn't look like she was. "Why did you come here?"

The Sligoo looked disappointed to be pushed away, and slunk back over to its trainer. "Oh, nothing special; I'm a traveler. Came from Lumiose city to see what Kalos had to offer." She was telling the truth.

Arta wriggles at the waiter when he approaches and takes the scone from him, eating it. Razailia, meanwhile, just takes the tea and sips it like the scone was met for Arta anyway. It wasn't, but Razailia didn't mind her pokemon taking her food. She returns Vincent, who seemed tired, and begins to take more notes. The people seemed to treat people who stuck out and were obviously from out of town suspiciously. Or maybe it was Arta. Either way, it was going into her book, because it'd be the perfect in her book. She was glad that none of the people here recognized her, it would ruin the atmosphere and detract from her people watching. That, and her book signing hand was getting carpo tunnel from when she went to Lumiose City.

Upon getting the scone snatched out of his hand, the waiter screamed like a little girl. It was very amusing for everyone except the poor guy, who shakily set the cup down before heading back inside. Through a window, the supposed owner of the place could be seen comforting the waiter.

Gwyn nodded. "My names Gwyn. I'm also a traveler of sorts. I travel to lots of places and see many things." He didn't want to reveal he was a detective just yet. It wasn't easy to do so since he couldn't lie, but he he learned to word things so they weren't untruthful. "The main reason I came here was because I heard of the rumors surrounding this place. People dissapearing, weird noises, pokemon misbehaving. Have you heard any rumors like that about here?"

The young woman thinks for a few moments. "Well, yes. My friend actually disappeared a while ago." She sighed. "Ah, poor Miles...Victim to this town's dreadful mystery. It's a shame, too; he was such a good friend." She shook her head sadly; she seemed to be telling the truth, as far as he could tell. Something still seemed 'off' about her, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Maybe she just had that look about her, despite her fashionable clothes and innocent face. Her Sliggoo stayed by her legs, 'peering' up at the detective with its useless eyespots.

'Bingo.' Gwyn perked up when he heard the girl mention Miles. He had gotten lucky talking to this girl. "Can you tell me a bit about his disappearance? Anything, like when he went missing, or what you think happened?" Gwyn didn't bother to offer condolences as, quite frankly, he didn't really feel sorry, so he couldn't. To him, Miles was just another piece of the puzzle, along with the other victims.

"Hmm...He went missing after he had gone shopping at the General Store..." The young woman said, thinking back. Her words were truthful so far. "I don't really know what happened to him, though." And here is where a red flag would go off in his mind. A lie, one of the first ones encountered in the city so far...At least, the one revealed to him. Her expression and tone seemed truthful, and anyone who didn't have Reshiram's blessing would've been utterly convinced by her words.

Gwyn had to hold back a smile as he detected a lie. 'A lie, on such a big question? Oh, this could get... interesting.' He still didn't really know WHY she was lying though. She could be being threatened by someone not to say anything, or she could be protecting a friend, or... there were many possibilities. He had to be careful how she confronted her about it, though. "You don't have any ideas? Not even a theory, or a guess or something?"
